What happened

Nordis Technologies has launched an RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging capability, giving brands a way to turn routine customer texts into interactive, branded exchanges. The addition extends Nordis's customer communications platform beyond static SMS and print-style messaging into a richer, app-like texting format.

RCS supports features such as branded sender identities, high-resolution images, carousels, quick-reply buttons and in-message actions — capabilities that standard SMS cannot carry. By building RCS into its platform, Nordis is positioning itself to help organizations upgrade transactional and lifecycle messages — bills, renewals, alerts, offers — into two-way, visually branded conversations without customers leaving the messaging thread.

Why it matters

Text messaging remains one of the highest-open-rate channels available to businesses, but plain SMS has stayed visually and functionally flat for two decades. RCS closes that gap by bringing web-like interactivity to the default messaging app on most Android devices, and increasingly on iOS. For organizations managing high-volume customer communications — billing, collections, appointment reminders, service updates — that shift matters because it turns a one-way notification channel into a workflow: customers can confirm, pay, reschedule or ask a question inside the same thread that alerted them.

For CX and digital transformation leaders, the launch is a reminder that channel modernization is not just about adding new apps or bots — it's about upgrading the infrastructure behind channels people already use every day. A carrier-grade RCS capability inside an existing communications platform lowers the lift for regulated or high-volume senders (utilities, financial services, healthcare, insurance) to modernize customer-facing messaging without re-platforming their entire outreach stack.

The René take

The headline risk with RCS is treating it as a design upgrade — nicer buttons, brand colors, a logo in the thread — rather than a behavioral one. The real opportunity is reducing the friction between "customer notices a message" and "customer completes the intended action."

Most organizations will use RCS to make texts look better; the ones that win will use it to make texts do more. A payment reminder with a tap-to-pay button changes behavior in ways a prettier reminder never will. The test for any team adopting this isn't "does it look branded?" — it's "did we remove a step?" If the interactive layer doesn't shorten the path from notification to resolution, you've just spent budget on a cosmetic upgrade to a channel that was never the bottleneck.
